It is a chemical element with atomic number 17 and symbol Cl. Chlorine in its elemental form (Cl2) under standard conditions, chloride, is a strong oxidizer used to bleach fabrics and as a common disinfectant in swimming pools for their cleanliness and sanitation. Chlorine is two and a half times heavier than air, has a very bad and suffocating odor, and is highly toxic.
